In order to seamlessly edit Office documents, OneDrive needs to be installed and configured correctly for FYI on each individual computer. This configuration must be made when you first start using FYI, to ensure you can fully utilise FYI’s document automation features.
Note: The installation configuration is commonly done by an IT person/administrator for each computer within your practice, so this may only be needed on a computer you are using at home.
OneDrive is Microsoft's service for hosting files in the "cloud". It is available for free to all owners of a Microsoft 365 account.
With OneDrive, you can sync files between your computer and the cloud, so you can access your files from anywhere. You can work with your synchronised files directly in File Explorer and access your files even when you’re offline. Whenever you are online, any changes that you or others make will synchronise automatically.
FYI leverages OneDrive to give users rich desktop editing functionality despite being a cloud application. Therefore, it is critical to get OneDrive configured correctly in order to get the most from FYI.
Note: You need to have the Office Setting "Use Office applications to sync Office files that I open" in your OneDrive Settings checked to enable this
- In Windows Explorer, right-click over your OneDrive.
- Select Settings.
- In Microsoft OneDrive, go to the Office tab.
- Ensure that "Use Office applications to sync Office files that I open" is checked.
- Click OK.
